HYROX is coming to Minneapolis May 6-9, 2027, and it's landing at U.S. Bank Stadium. We've been hoping for this one for a long time.
Until now, racing HYROX meant packing a bag and traveling to another city. Now the world's fastest-growing fitness race is setting up in our own backyard, under the same roof as the Vikings. Our team has been traveling to these races for a while, and we can't wait to see a start line full of Twin Cities athletes this spring.
If you've been curious about HYROX, this is the year to try it. Here's what the race is, why it pairs so well with endurance training, how to pick your format, and how we can get you there ready.
What is HYROX?
HYROX is a standardized fitness race: eight 1 km runs, each followed by one functional workout station. The stations come in the same order at every race worldwide:
1,000 m SkiErg
50 m sled push
50 m sled pull
80 m burpee broad jumps
1,000 m row
200 m farmers carry
100 m sandbag lunges
100 Wall balls
Because the course is the same everywhere, your Minneapolis time is directly comparable to a race in London, Hong Kong, or Chicago. There's no time cutoff, so it's open to every ability level, from first-timers to athletes chasing a World Championship spot.

Why HYROX and endurance training make each other better
HYROX is half endurance race, half strength test, which makes it a natural fit for endurance athletes. The training flows both ways.
What HYROX training gives endurance athletes
Strength that protects you. Sled pushes, lunges, and carries build the legs, hips, and core that hold your form late in a marathon or on the bike. Stronger tissue is also more resilient tissue, which helps keep you out of the injury cycle.
Running on tired legs. Every HYROX run starts right after a hard station. That's the same feeling as coming off the bike in a triathlon or climbing late in a Birkie.
A productive off-season. HYROX gives you a fun, measurable goal through the winter, when long outdoor sessions are harder to come by in Minnesota.
Mental toughness. Grinding through 100 wall balls after 8 km of running teaches you to stay composed when everything hurts.
What endurance training gives HYROX athletes
An aerobic engine. For most athletes, roughly half of HYROX race time is spent running. The athletes who finish strong are the ones with a big aerobic base, not just big lifts.
Faster recovery between efforts. Better aerobic fitness means your heart rate comes down faster after each station, so you start every run fresher.
Pacing discipline. Endurance athletes know how to hold back early and spend their effort wisely. In HYROX, going out too hot on the first run is the most common mistake we see.
Smart training structure. Periodization, easy days that are truly easy, and planned recovery keep you progressing instead of just getting tired.
Which HYROX format is right for you?
Every format covers the same eight runs and eight stations. What changes is how many people share the work and how heavy the weights are.
A few notes to help you choose:
Doubles and Relay come in men's, women's, and mixed categories. Pro Doubles is men's or women's only.
"Pro" doesn't mean professional. Anyone can sign up. It's simply heavier weights and a self-selected, more experienced field.
Elite 15 is the invite-only, qualification-based race for the world's top athletes, so it's not a registration option for most of us.
New to HYROX? Start with Relay or Doubles. You'll get the full race-day experience while sharing the load, then come back for Singles next season.
Check the official Minneapolis event page before you register, since the divisions and start waves offered can vary by event.
