About Coach Miguel

Coach Miguel works with endurance athletes who want to perform at a high level without sacrificing their health. He has raced across nearly every major endurance discipline, completing 10+ ultramarathons, multiple HYROX events, over five Ironman 70.3 races, the ITU Long Distance World Championships, and Ironman Mont-Tremblant. As a coach, Miguel has guided athletes to Boston Marathon qualification, Ironman 70.3 World Championship finishes, and top-level ultramarathon performances. Miguel originally founded Anselmo Performance Coaching, where he became known for working with athletes dealing with complex cases involving repeated bony injuries such as stress fractures, mental health conditions, eating disorders, menstrual dysfunction, and other signs of Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S). His approach focuses on rebuilding trust in training, restoring durability, and helping athletes progress again, often for the first time in years.

Behind the scenes, Miguel is a PhD student at the University of Minnesota studying how low energy availability and hormone disruption affect cardiovascular function, nervous system regulation, and performance in endurance athletes. That background shapes how he coaches, but his athletes experience it as smarter training decisions, better communication and understanding, and fewer dead ends. Miguel recently joined Outpace Coaching to be part of a team that values long-term development, collaboration, and athlete education. He believes the best results come when training fits the athlete—not the other way around.

His coaching philosophy is simple: Every athlete is more than a training plan. When we understand the full picture — training, recovery, fueling, stress, and life — we create performances that last.”

Passion

My passion for coaching comes from a deep respect for what endurance sport can give, and what it can take away if done poorly. I’ve spent years as both an athlete and a coach navigating the highs of big performances and the lows of injury, burnout, and underfueling- even leading to being diagnosed with an eating disorder two years ago, which I have since then healed from. Those experiences shaped how I view training: not as something to survive, but something that should enhance your life. Endurance sport is rarely just about race day, it’s about the habits, resilience, and self-awareness built along the way. I’m driven by helping athletes pursue ambitious goals while staying healthy, curious, and engaged in the process. Whether an athlete’s goal is to finish their first race, qualify for a championship event, or rebuild after setbacks, I believe success comes from understanding the whole person, not just their training data. At its core, endurance sport is a long-term relationship with effort, patience, and growth. I’m passionate about guiding athletes through that journey in a way that leads not only to strong performances, but to longevity in sport and confidence beyond it.
